Corey had a seizure today. First time in almost 20 years! I was scared. Thankfully it wasn't a violent seizure. It was about 1:15 or so on Thursday, March 18. Corey had just finished eating lunch and was still sitting at the kitchen table. Mom and I were questioning her about something when she started to look listless. Her eyes just started blankly ahead and she didn't answer us. She didn't move but just sat very still. It was so unlike her. I kept asking her if she was feeling okay and to say, "Yes" if she was. After a few seconds she said, "Yes" but then went silent again. It looked like she had stopped breathing but it was hard to tell. Her lips didn't turn purple like they used to when she was a little girl. In fact, her muscles didn't tense up and spaz either. Instead, it was almost like she was having a stroke. Her facial muscles seemed to relax, almost to the point where her cheeks and lips started to sag. Mom was the first to say that she was having a seizure. She and I both kept talking to Corey, asking her to respond. She didn't, or couldn't. Near the end of her seizure, Corey's eyes rolled back in her head. This was just about the time Dad came over. He and Mom told her to close her eyes and lay her head down on the kitchen table. It took her a few seconds to respond. Dad helped her fold her arms and put her head down. Just a few seconds after that, she was okay. The change was almost like night and day. It was as though she woke up from a sleep. She started talking and moving around like normal!
Dad and I helped her up and walked her to her room so she could lie down. Mom called Peggy to tell her what happened and that she would be staying home to rest. A few minutes later, Dad left for Kumon and Mom for her first Diabetes class. I called Crystal at Easter Seals to let her know what happened. Since the incident happened while I was "on the clock", I had to write up an incident report and fax it to them. In the middle of that, my Mom called from Kaiser, where her class was being held, to let me know that a nurse would be calling to ask questions about Corey. After the nurse called and a doctor's appointment was made, I had to leave to help P. Kirsten move into the new media room at the church. Asia said that she'd be home that day and could watch Corey. I let her know that Corey's appointment was in about 20mins. and that she had to take her. During this time Corey fell asleep in her room. It took her a while to fall asleep so she only really slept for around 10-15 mins. before Asia had to wake her up to go to Kaiser. Asia, David and Corey left first and I left for church just a few minutes later.
I got to church around 3pm, stayed to set up the tower and VT4 with Elijah, and left just before 9pm. What a day!
